After nearly two years of build-up, DC Comics' Trinity War has arrived. With the inciting incident occurring in this week's Justice League #22, the fight is on and the crossover is ready to blaze through the summer. This week also marks the next chapter of Batman: Zero Year, a new issue of Superman Unchained, and a whole lot of Gotham City goodness.
At Marvel, we get another dose of Daredevil and Hawkeye along with a very surprising installment of Avengers Academy. And as though that wasn't enough, Valiant Comics' latest, Quantum and Woody, has finally arrived to stellar results. Oh, and seeing as how it's San Diego Comic-Con next week (already! Can you flippin' believe it?), there will be no review round-up!

"One of the elements I like most about Astro City is how consistently accessible the series is. Kurt Busiek has populated this universe with plenty of characters, but it's rarely difficult to just pick an issue of any given series and just dive right into the fray. "Alex Garner's stunning cover for Batgirl #22 shows our eponymous hero quite literally severing her ties with the Bat symbol she no longer feels she deserves. It's fitting then that writer Gail Simone deviates from Barbara Gordon's nocturnal crime-fighting activities to explore another side to her character. In the emotional wreckage left by her sociopathic brother's dastardly deeds and subsequent demise, Babs has been left crushed by an avalanche of self-doubt and guilt. "You have to give Van Jensen credit for being so ballsy with Green Lantern Corps -- and it’s only his second issue. He has taken the controversy surrounding the supposed mandate from DC for John Stewart to be killed and run with it, as you can plainly see from the cover. But this title is so much more than a clever wink. "When you look at it, Trinity War has been brewing since Flashpoint ushered in the New 52 back in 2011. Geoff Johns brings together threads from the past two years involving all three Justice Leagues, Flashpoint, Pandora and the rest of the Trinity of Sin, the Secret Society, and the Shazam backups. It’s highly impressive that Johns makes a cohesive tale out of so many different elements from so many stories, yet aside from Madame Xanadu’s vague vision of a bleak and fiery future, it’s hard to say what the actual conflict is. "In Nightwing #22, writer Kyle Higgins thrusts Dick Grayson deeper into Chicago's messy, corrupt world of lies and intrigue without losing any of the character's trademark charm. Right from the issue's opening page, we see that the odds are most definitely not in Nightwing's favor, as nearly everyone in his life has an agenda that involves bringing him down a notch or two -- even if he doesn't know it yet. Over the past few issues, Higgins hasn't taken the time to really explore Nightwing's personal relationships in his new city, but here we get to see how complicated his life is becoming, both at home and on the job, as his roommates become players in a game they don't fully realize they've been sucked into." -Melissa
