Community: Dan Harmon Wants Season 5 to "Astound People"

In a recent interview with THR's Lacey Rose, once dumped Community showrunner Dan Harmon discussed, for the first non-Harmontown podcast time, the wild details behind his firing and eventual rehiring - ending the interview with a vow. "I want to astound people with a season five that makes an unbeatable argument for a sixth season. I want the headlines to say, 'Holy crap, Dan Harmon pulled it off.'"

After revealing at the beginning of June that he was officially back on board as Community's showrunner and then promising not to be a jerk about the Harmon-less Season 4, Harmon then proceeded to be a jerk about Season 4. Leading to an apology for his comments. This has now led Harmon to make the decision to not talk about work in his Harmontown podcast anymore. "If I'm feeling pain inside, I say what I'm feeling; and when I say it in the way that I say it, it makes people laugh, and then that makes the pain go away," he tells THR. "So whether it's through blogging or talking into a microphone, it's the thing that keeps me sane. I really look at it as a form of therapy."

Harmon, who was fired for his erratic, confrontational behavior - a strange mix of perfectionism and procrastination - is now back on the job and, naturally, falling behind schedule. "The feeling is familiar and delicious," he explained. "Have you ever had a lover that breaks up with you for a year and then doesn't really tell you why, says that they're not ready for a relationship to make you feel better about getting dumped, and then you see them on Instagram hanging out at the same restaurants? When that person comes back and says, 'I miss you, I miss the way your hair smells,' how do you react to that? There's a slight feeling of vindication, but there's also a lot of 'Screw you.'"

Harmon also reveals that the first episode of Season 5 will act as a bit of a palate cleanser for Season 4 meant to reintroduce Community viewers with the characters. "I don't mean that we tasted anything bad," he clarified. "I just mean that because we tasted something different, there needs to be a reset."
