iPad mini with Retina Display Reportedly Delayed Until 2014

Like a unicorn, the retina display-enabled iPad mini is an illusive creature. Despite months of rumors suggesting Apple would soon release a revised version of the 7.9-inch tablet, a new report claims that the device has been delayed until early 2014. Citing display shortages in Apple's supply chain, Taiwan's Economic Daily News (via Electronista) says the new model was originally slated to arrive in Q4 and take advantage of holiday season sales surges.

If true, the delay would be an uncommon deviation from Apple's traditional annual refresh schedule, leaving the iPad mini unchanged since November of last year. In April, Apple reported a 65% increase in iPad sales over the previous quarter, showing strong momentum for the company's current lineup of models. Whether or not Apple can maintain similar figures until the next-gen versions are ready, however, remains unclear.

Apple is slated to deliver its Q3 2013 earnings on July 23rd.
