Microsoft Slashing Price of Surface RT to $349

Oh, Microsoft Surface, you've had a tough road to drive thus far. Despite Microsoft's assurance its hybrid tablet was pushing "record revenue," the company is apparently planning to cut the price of the Surface by a considerable margin. According to a report from The Verge, Microsoft will soon lower the price of its entry-level, 32GB Surface RT to only $349. The price cut is seemingly confirmed this evening by a weekly ad from Staples.

The Surface RT will allegedly receive a $150 price cut. Granted, the move could be part of an as-yet-unannounced plan to upgrade the Surface line to Intel's new Haswell processors. Microsoft passively hinted at new Surface tablets during its Worldwide Partner Conference earlier this week. The 32GB Surface RT currently retails for $499.

The 32GB Surface RT will now retail for $349, while the 64GB RT model will move to $449. The same models with a Touch Cover will retail for an additional hundred bucks, with the 32Gb and 64GB models selling for $449 and $549, respectively. No word on whether the Surface Pro will receive such a discount.
