Samsung Announces New Ultra HD TVs, Starting at $5,500

OK, so maybe an 85-inch Ultra HD TV was a little out of your price range. After all, we don't all have $40,000 just lying around. But today, Samsung has announced a significantly more affordable--yet still pricey--alternative with the F9000 UHD TV. While certainly smaller than the previously mentioned S9 "floating" TV, the 55-inch and 65-inch F9000 still offer a host of Smart TV features and a crisp 4K picture.

Both models of the F9000 utilize Samsung's Quadmatic Picture Engine, which the company claims is capable of up-scaling SD or HD video to UHD quality.

"Now home entertainment lovers will have the opportunity to truly see and enjoy their favorite shows and movies like never before, in crystal-clear ultra high-definition, and in the beautifully designed 55- and 65-inch sizes they demand," said Joe Stinziano, executive VP of Samsung America.

The F9000 features the new Smart Hub interface, with content categorized by apps, TV, photos, and movies. Additionally, the new UHD TVs include "Smart Interaction," which allows users to control the televisions with hand gestures and voice commands, similar to Xbox Kinect.

Pre-orders are available starting July 21, with the 55-inch F9000 retailing for $5,500, while the 65-inch will cost $7,500. Both models are expected to ship in August.
