A dramatic TV series is in the works based on Alan Moore and Kevin O'Neill's graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Green Lantern screenwriter Michael Green will script and serve as showrunner.

The comic -- which saw Victorian-era literary genre characters such as Allan Quartermain, Captain Nemo, the Invisible Man, Mina Harker, and Doctor Jekyll/Mr. Hyde teaming up to battle different threats -- was. previously produced as a feature film in 2003 starring Sean Connery, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, Richard Roxburgh, Stuart Townsend, Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson and Tony Curran. The movie, fittingly enough, opened 10 years ago this week.

"20th Century Fox TV will produce the project, and the commitment from Fox marks 20th’s first significant drama sale for the forthcoming development season. Project also marks Fox’s first serious foray in the graphic novel/comic book realm, one that ABC is testing this fall with Marvel series SHIELD," according to Variety.
