Comic-Con: Falling Skies Teases What's To Come in the Rest of Season 3

TNT's Falling Skies is in its third season, and the executive producers and cast came to Comic-Con to discuss the events of the season so far and to tease the rest of Season 3. The panelist line up was big and included Noah Wyle, Moon Bloodgood, Will Patton, Conner Jessup, Drew Roy, Sarah Carter, Collin Cunningham, Doug Jones, and executive producers Remi Aubuchon and Greg Beeman. Moderator Wil Wheaton emphasized the themes of family within the show – the families you're born with and the ones you choose.

Noah Wyle's character Tom Mason definitely has had to wrestle with his responsibilities to his children versus that to his fellow humans in the current season. Wyle said Tom had to question the choices he's made to keep his family alive and consider whether it would have just been better for them to hide and wait it out. However, Wyle pointed out,“The character feels he has a larger responsibility to the species... he has an opportunity to the be the active participant in the making of history instead of a professor.”

His son Hal has been wrestling with an evil side. Drew Roy said playing the character this way has been “intimidating and thrilling at the same time.” Maggie's trying to be there for him and support him. Sarah Carter said she has perspective others don't. “Maggie believes in Hal. She has battled drugs in her own past so she understands what is like to have evil and temptation drawing you out of goodness. She chooses to believe that if she is the one person who is solid for Hal that he will get to the other side and be the man who she knows he is.” Roy said the two characters have some “really interesting stuff” coming up in the fourth season that makes them question everything they know about each other.

Though just a few episodes of Season 3 are left, viewers can expect some surprises before the end. They shared a preview for this Sunday's episode, and it gets serious. Karen has Tom on a torture table. He manages to turn the situation around though and shoots her point blank in the head. Because that seems too big to put in a tease, it seems like she could somehow survive it. An action-packed sizzle reel showed footage from the rest of the season and the biggest takeaway is Pope gets to fire a giant rifle at what looks to be enemy aliens. It looks like a lot of fun.

All of the fighting makes you wonder whether the humans can ever bounce back. Remi Aubuchon thinks so. “ I think in human history we've always come back stronger after being tested. We’ve always sort of paralleled the story of the American Revolution in this series. Most everyone in the middle of the Revolutionary War thought it was over... We surprised the entire world.” He said the story is ultimately about the resilience of humans.

Falling Skies airs on Sunday nights at 10:00pm on TNT.
