Two of the producers responsible for the successful reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre have acquired the rights to remake George A. Romero's Day of the Dead.
The LA Times reports that Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell are now holding meetings with scriptwriters about how best to adapt the 1985 zombie classic. Early mutterings suggest it'll have a budget between $10 million and $20 million and will hit screens next year.
The pair's reboot of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, titled Texas Chainsaw 3D, was released this January and was a success, grossing $34.3 million. Grobman explained that she and Campbell can replicate this, saying "We wanted to show that we didn't just get lucky. It was a very calculated production."
In terms of what fans of the original should expect, Campbell added, "We want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible to make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in 'World War Z.'"
Grobman and Campbell will be joined in their producer roles by the Dudelsons and Millennium executives Avi Lerner, Boaz Davidson and Mark Gill. The Dudelsons have rebooted the film once previously in 2008 starring Mena Suvari and Nick Cannon, when it was a massive flop.
