Steven Spielberg, DreamWorks Back Out of American Sniper

Director Steven Spielberg and his DreamWorks studio have officially parted ways with American Sniper, which has Bradley Cooper attached to star at Warner Bros.

Variety claims that ultimately a finalized deal with Spielberg just couldn't be reached. There are two other projects he's associated with: Robopocalypse, which he indefinitely postponed directing due to budget and script concerns, and a retelling of The Grapes of Wrath, which DreamWorks recently acquired. He's also producing Jurassic Park IV.

American Sniper, based on the book by the late US Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, was to have been Spielberg's follow-up film to his acclaimed biopic Lincoln.
