Wii U Not On Bethesda's Radar For Now

Publisher Bethesda is considering releasing games on Nintendo's Wii U in the near future.

Speaking to Joystiq at QuakeCon, Bethesda's VP of PR and marketing Pete Hines said, "None of the game's we've announced are being developed for the Wii U, so it's guaranteed that none of those games are coming to Wii U." He was referring to the publisher's current line-up, which includes Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Elder Scrolls Online, and The Evil Within. Hines even offered insight into the publisher's stance.

"It's largely a hardware thing," said Hines, explaining that Bethesda's entire philosophy is to "make the games that we want to make, on whatever platforms will support them as developed." He went on to use The Elder Scrolls Online as an example of what he meant, saying it "likely would have" come to Xbox 360 but it "just wasn't possible" to hardware constraints.

Citing hardware as the reason for not releasing games on Wii U differs from the rationale given by other publishers. EA said earlier in the year that this year's versions of Madden and FIFA wouldn't be coming to Wii U due to the commercial disappointment of the Wii U version of FIFA 13.

"Will any future ones come out? I can't say for sure, in our near-term focus it's not on our radar," and Hines added. "It remains to be seen what the future holds."
